Verizon Petition

The Willow Grove area near Dale Hollow Lake in North-Eastern Middle Tennessee has poor cellular service. Many people live in this area and even more come to visit and vacation on this beautiful lake. The lack of cellular coverage has always been a complaint by many. In most areas, emergency communication (or even just recreational communication) is impossible. Residents and visitors may not be able to access life saving services and information in an emergency.
According to SteelInTheAir.com, a cell phone tower costs approximately $150,000 to build. Factors that affect cost to build a tower include the type, height and location of the tower, weather conditions and zoning costs. Operating costs not included.
We have an ace-in-the-hole however. The East Clay Volunteer Fire Department has just erected a new emergency communication tower at 5350 Willow Grove Highway that could be used to greatly reduce the cost to cover the area. Our local Telephone Co-Op Twin Lakes has fiber optic internet running past the tower site and can provide back-haul bandwidth up to 10Gbps. We believe that Verizon could greatly benefit from forming a relationship with the ECVFD to place LTE gear on the existing tower and save much of the cost normally associated with provisioning a new tower while providing the area with a greatly needed service that doesn’t currently exist from any provider. Please sign our petition to ask Verizon to “light up” our area!
